I went from this:
to finally, this:
I always wanted red hair...real Crayola RED hair!! Maybe because red is my favorite color and has been since I was 2, or maybe because I loved the Little Mermaid when I was a little girl, but after going through my 20's being cautious and not really doing certain things I wanted (like piercing my nose which I did at 29) and my red hair (I don't know why I thought I couldn't pull it off)
Now that I have turned 30 I've decided that life is too short to not do the things that make you happy, especially if they are even little things like changing your hair color.
I did a lot of research and watched tons of videos on how to get my hair to the red I wanted, But I didn't want to use a semi-permanent because semi-permanents fade very quickly.I did dye it red with a permanent dye and it didn't come out how I wanted, so I kept watching videos.
I found a video of a girl with super red hair and she shared how she did it, I then decided to ask someone who had the red hair color that I wanted. Luckily enough, Miss Siony was kind enough to tell me what she used and she confirmed what the girl in the video had said!
Anyhow, let's get to how I did it.Now, I had my hair dyed jet black and had been dyeing it black for 6 years, but if your hair isn't dyed, then you can skip this part.But one more thing...My hair is on the thicker side, so it can take a lot of abuse if your hair is fine go lower volume on the developer
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
*FOR DYED HAIR ONLY- L'OREAL'S HAIR COLOR REMOVER
*40 OR/AND 30 VOLUME CREAM DEVELOPER (YOU NEED 30 FOR THE RED DYE)
*TWO POWDER BLEACH PACKETS TRY L'OREAL'S QUICK BLUE
*L'OREAL'S HICOLOR HIGHLIGHTS IN MAGENTA (2 IF YOU HAVE HAIR LONGER THAN SHOULDER LENGTH OR HAVE A LOT OF HAIR)
*PROTEIN FILLER IN RED RED
* 2 PLASTIC PROCESSING CAPS OR PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS
* 2 TINT BRUSHES (ONE FOR BLEACH AND ONE FOR DYE)
*OLD TOWELS FOR YOUR HAIR AND TO PROTECT WORK AREA
*VASELINE TO PROTECT SKIN FROM DYE
*MANIC PANIC DYE IN VAMPIRE RED
STEP ONE: stripped my hair with L'OREAL'S HAIR COLOR REMOVER, you can buy it at Walmart and costs about $8 and if your hair is longer than shoulder length, I suggest buying two.follow the instructions carefully.
STEP TWO: I bleached my hair using a powder hair bleach (L'OREAL'S QUICK BLUE is good) and used a 40 vol. developer.Leave it on for 20 minutes and keep checking it to see if its orange.**THE GOAL IS TO GET YOUR HAIR TO AN ORANGE COLOR, THINK OF THE ORANGEY COLOR OF CLAY (EX. PLANT CLAY POTS)**
~~~~TIP: IF YOUR HAVE MEDIUM TO LIGHT BROWN HAIR THAT ISN'T DYED YOU CAN SKIP THE BLEACH AND USE A VERY BLONDE HAIR DYE, JUST USE A 30 VOLUME DEVELOPER.~~~~
STEP THREE: After I washed and dried my hair (your hair will be a bit straw-like) I dyed it with L'Oreal's hicolor highlights in Magenta I added a 30 volume developer and a protein filler in red red into the dye.Left it on for about 40 minutes.Rinsed and conditioned just a tiny bit on the ends,I didn't want to lose any more dye lol! And, I let it air dry because I didn't want to put my hair through another blow drying.
Now, red hair is a pain to maintain, so if you're going to commit, then know that red hair needs extra care. I plan to maintain my hair by using a red hair shampoo and conditioner and Manic panic's Vampire red. when I see that my hair is starting to fade I'll just dye it with the Vampire red and I will also be using the protein filler in the shower.I will also not wash my hair everyday and will be using a dry shampoo.
TO MAINTAIN YOUR HAIR THE WAY I AM YOU'LL NEED:
*RED HAIR SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
*MANIC PANIC'S VAMPIRE RED
*PROTEIN FILLER IN RED RED
TO MAINTAIN ROOTS:
*L'OREAL'S HICOLOR HIGHLIGHTS IN MAGENTA
*30 VOLUME DEVERLOPER
*PROTEIN FILLER IN RED RED
~~~I BOUGHT EVERYTHING I NEEDED AT SALLY BEAUTY SUPPLY AND WALMART~~~~
I hope this is clear and helpful for anyone who wants to dye their hair red, like mine.Have fun!!
Disclaimer: I AM NOT A HAIR EXPERT, THIS IS SIMPLY WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME, I DON'T HAVE COARSE HAIR, MY HAIR IS MEDIUM AND A MED-LIGHT BROWN AND LIFTS PRETTY EASILY.PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH ON WHAT MIGHT WORK BEST FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE. THANK YOU.

I think a lot of us have seen or have made eyebrow grooming mistakes.Ever since I was in high school and I would see other girls totally botch their eyebrows by trying to completely change the shape,shaving them off and re-drawing them or over plucking where they just shouldn't be plucking, it would bother me because I would see some really pretty girls just ruin their whole face by messing up their eyebrows. I myself made a huge plucking mistake, in high school I was a big No Doubt fan and I just loved Gwen Stefani's eyebrows, so I plucked mine thin, the problem was they never grew back to how they used to be, so now, I am stuck always filling and shaping my eyebrows.
Well to this day, bad eyebrow grooming is something that still bothers me, a lot!!! and whenever I do see it, I just cringe inside...lol! and at the same time I get the intense urge to want to fix those poor mistreated eyebrows! But I bite my tongue cause I just don't want to make anyone feel bad, not every woman knows how to groom their eyebrows correctly and us who do shouldn't go around criticizing them.
So now to the fun part! ha ha!! I've picked 3 of the eyebrow grooming mistakes I see the most and I want to show how to fix them. I've taken some of my pictures and edited them to show the wrong and right way to do your eyebrows.Your eyebrows are very important they really do frame and bring balance to your face.
EYEBROW MISTAKE #1: OVER PLUCKING IN BETWEEN THE EYEBROWS.
Over plucking in between your eyebrows can, not only make your nose look bigger but it just ruins your natural expression. Now let's look at the right way:
Now here we see the difference, I've also marked where your eyebrow should start and end.Your eyebrows should start where the inner corner of your eye starts(it doesn't have to be exact but its better if your eyebrow doesn't start past that line) If you take a thin pencil and align it with your nostril it will also give you a sense of where your eyebrow should begin, but I rather use the inner corner of the eye because its closer to the eyebrow.The angled line shows where your eyebrow should end. Don't pluck past those points.
EYEBROW GROOMING MISTAKE #2: OVER PLUCKING UNDER THE BROW OR CHANGING THE NATURAL SHAPE.
Here we see an eyebrow that's been over-plucked on its underside which really ruins the eyebrow's natural shape. It gives a very harsh look to the face.
And now lets look at the right way:
The line under your eyebrow should be straight as it goes up to your arch.I've highlighted the line in pink to show this line.Everyone has a natural arch some higher than others and its always best just to go with your natural arch rather than trying to create an exaggerated arch which will only make you look, well, mad.
And now to EYEBROW GROOMING MISTAKE #3: OVERDRAWN OR EYEBROWS THAT ARE SHADED TOO DARK AND NOT WELL BLENDED.
Here we see those "cartoon" brows that look like if someone took a marker and drew them on.They are so dark that they look like someone went to town with the tattoo gun!! This also will make your expression look harsh and give you more of a "clown" look than a soft and defined look. Let's take a look at the right way:
Here, even though I have to completely shade in my brows and shape them because my hairs are just so sparse, my eyebrows still have a very natural look, that plays well with my jet black hair.
How do I do it? well, I only use an eyebrow pencil to create the arch line and slightly darken the outer line of my eyebrow. for the rest of my eyebrow, I use an angled eyeliner brush and either a soft black eye shadow or a dark brown matte eyeshadow,sometimes both.Depending on what my make-up look is and what season we're in.The trick is to apply a little at a time using soft strokes,never pressing the brush too hard against the skin.We want blended not painted eyebrows.
For the most part it is suggested that when filling your eyebrows, to use and eyebrow powder or shadow, in a shade or two lighter than your hair color, this is to create a softer look on the face.
So, I hope this has helped! at least in the knowledge part =) If you would like to see me do a video on how I groom my eyebrows, let me know!!

A while back, I learned a great skin care tip from another make-up artist, Kandee Johnson (who is an amazing woman by the way!): Lemons and sugar are good for your skin...Yes!!
Here's why lemons are good for your skin:They are an excellent source of vitamin B6, iron and potassium, and a very good source of dietary fiber and vitamin C. They also contain calcium, copper, folic acid, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus and zinc.They also are a source of bioflavonoids which protect against damage caused by free radicals!! yay!
Another major plus is that if you have problems with acne,you can rub a slice of lemon onto your skin and then rinse with tepid water to help clear pimples. However,they are acidic,so if you have sensitive skin try diluting it with water. Lemons are also a natural exfoliant and will help to remove dead skin cells to reveal brighter skin.
So, by pairing this wonderful fruit with sugar (which is another great natural skin exfoliant) we create a super sweet skin treat! A lemon juice and sugar face scrub! sounds like Lemonade, doesn't it?
- - -Lemon and sugar face Scrub- - -
1/2 a lemon or lemon juice (you can use the concentrate kind)
a round cotton pad
Now what to do with that:
Pour some lemon juice on your cotton pad
Dip it on the sugar
and in circular motions, scrub away for about 2 minutes!
if you have oily or combination skin: 2-3 times a week
If you have normal,sensitive or dry: 1-2 times a week and separate the days.
AND REMEMBER! ALWAYS USE SUNSCREEN ESPECIALLY AFTER DOING THIS!
Want to do it my way? Okay!
Here's how I do it:
I keep a small plastic container filled with sugar (I like to have it handy!)
I also use 1/2 a lemon and a cotton ball
I squeeze a little juice on the cotton ball and apply the juice to my face, then I dip the cotton ball in the sugar and scrub away! sometimes I like to just use my fingers to scrub my face.
Note: right now during winter I scrub my face 3-4 times a week (I know that's a lot!). I don't always use the lemon though. I just mix the sugar with my current face wash and scrub away.I do this only because I know my skin's tolerance and I have seen significant difference in my skin from doing this.
How often do I do it?
2-3 times a week and I have combination skin, but its dry during winter time.
I have been doing this for a couple of months now and I have seen some wonderful results on my skin. I have past acne scarring around my chin and sun damage for not being sun conscious in my early 20's, which caused my skin's texture to look rough and brought on some fine lines! eww!
Every time I do this my skin feels smooth,clean and refreshed! and now, my skin looks brighter,is smoother and feels super soft! it also receives my moisturizer so much better, it doesn't feel like it just sits on top.
I also have noticed a great reduction in my fine lines (the curse of having fair to light skin and from being exposed to too much sun without protection!) and my skin is firmer than it was before!!
Of course I wouldn't recommend anything I haven't tried on myself first! And I definitely recommend that you try this as well!! Let me just add one more thing! It has also kept my breakouts at bay!! yay!! I don't suffer from acne like I used to, but I did break out sometimes and now, I don't!!
I hope you give this skin care tip a try and that it works marvelously for you too! I would love to hear if any of you do try and know your results!!
So drink your lemon water and use your lemonade scrub!!! lol!
